A couple of weeks ago we had a chance to invite Warren Laine-Naida for a chat session at #ChampsTalk. Where he shared his knowledge about the talk of the town “Google Core Web Vitals”. Warren is a tech enthusiast, digital nomad, and book writer.
Just in case, if you missed out on the session, here is a quick recap.

Thank you @WarrenLNaida for joining us today 🙏
Here's our Q1: Warren, could you please explain what is Google Core Web Vitals for those who are listening to this term for the first time? pic.twitter.com/zBFDjYk1Ri
— Social Champ (@SocialChampSays) February 9, 2022
#ChampsTalk 1. Since May 2021, Google has placed their expectations of our websites into an actual set of rules. And they are great reminders for us! Core Vitals focus on 3 UX items: loading time, interactivity, and page stability.
— Warren Laine-Naida (@WarrenLNaida) February 9, 2022
Q2. Why is Core Web Vitals important and is it necessary that web developers need to think about it before making any website live? #ChampsTalk pic.twitter.com/JeGR1HO4SS
— Social Champ (@SocialChampSays) February 9, 2022
#ChampsTalk 2 If we want our website to be found in organic search, we have a lot to consider. When we build our sites, they should always be fast, accessible, and usable. Core Vitals are just best practice with another name.
— Warren Laine-Naida (@WarrenLNaida) February 9, 2022
Q3. What are the pre-requisite in order to work on the website for Core Web Vitals? #ChampsTalk pic.twitter.com/Gj0noNvpCe
— Social Champ (@SocialChampSays) February 9, 2022
#ChampsTalk 3 Core Vitals aside, always address general user fundamentals on your sites. If we work with prebuilt themes, they should be light. Only use what we need. Websites aren’t movies. They are there to solve a problem. People might go to your site and only stay 45 seconds.
— Warren Laine-Naida (@WarrenLNaida) February 9, 2022
Q4. What are the main factors that Google considers for Core Web Vitals in a webpage to enhance the overall user experience? #ChampsTalk pic.twitter.com/AzAwCgoLL5
— Social Champ (@SocialChampSays) February 9, 2022
#ChampsTalk 4 Websites should load quickly. Max 2 seconds. Once loaded we want to click. So your site shouldn’t move after loading. BUT If website 1 is faster than website 2 but 2 is more relevant to the search query, website 2 will still outrank website 1.
— Warren Laine-Naida (@WarrenLNaida) February 9, 2022
Q5. What are LCP, FID & CLS and what are the differences among them? #ChampsTalk pic.twitter.com/pMJRStjz9n
— Social Champ (@SocialChampSays) February 9, 2022
#ChampsTalk 5 The Core Vitals are: Largest Contentful Paint, First Input Delay (total blocking time), and Cumulative Layout Shift. In a nutshell it is a check of when is our website visible (loaded), usable (clickable), and stable (not moving). Kind of important.
— Warren Laine-Naida (@WarrenLNaida) February 9, 2022
Q6. How can one check Core Web Vitals score? Would you recommend any tools for it? #ChampsTalk pic.twitter.com/dQoWr6mSxe
— Social Champ (@SocialChampSays) February 9, 2022
#ChampsTalk 6 I was using Lighthouse, the page speed check, but now I use https://t.co/a9hJbFtokv to measure. There are plugins available, but I wouldn’t weigh your site down with these. That would be counterproductive :o) Not a paid plug
— Warren Laine-Naida (@WarrenLNaida) February 9, 2022
Q7. Why Google Core Web Vitals is not just a technical thing – why it's important for SEO and Content Creation people too? #ChampsTalk pic.twitter.com/XHy3w2MAm3
— Social Champ (@SocialChampSays) February 9, 2022
#ChampsTalk 7 Tech can scare us off. All these tools! Core Vitals help keep us honest. They police our design and layout for one. For SEO, they give us a sense of how people experience our website. SEO is a Google consideration, so if Google is happy then so will our SEO results!
— Warren Laine-Naida (@WarrenLNaida) February 9, 2022
Q8. Please share some tips to improve the Core Web Vitals Score for custom websites. #ChampsTalk pic.twitter.com/Hl3tInzjPr
— Social Champ (@SocialChampSays) February 9, 2022
#ChampsTalk 8 Core Vitals are what Google have always been telling us to do. Make it good and fast. Build light websites. Write good, simple, content. Make sites accessible all the time on every device. I love the https://t.co/2mWF3lvzI8 optimiser plugin and themes by @Gatsby_WP

Super chat, thank you! A champ community! I hope everyone gets the chance to improve their websites, checking the CWV scores, but at the same time not losing any sleep about it. Just keep making fast, good sites. In 4 years there will be a new Google update ;o) Have a great day!
— Warren Laine-Naida (@WarrenLNaida) February 9, 2022
You too @WarrenLNaida ! We will keep in touch ❤️

If I don't execute Core Web Vitals, will it affect my website rankings?@WarrenLNaida @SocialChampSays #ChampsTalk
— Yumna Hafeez (@hafeez_yumna) February 9, 2022
A relevant website is better than a fast one in rankings, but why risk leaving money on the table? :o)
— Warren Laine-Naida (@WarrenLNaida) February 9, 2022
So I guess it's better to implement CVW then 😅#ChampsTalk
— Yumna Hafeez (@hafeez_yumna) February 9, 2022
. @WarrenLNaida First of all thanks for being a part of #ChampsTalk @SocialChampSays
I would like to know the tips to increase the Core Web Vitals score on mobile.
P.S The websitee is already mobile-friendly but the score is low
— Syed Muneeb Ul Hasan (Let's meet at #WCUS) (@syed_muneebb) February 9, 2022
Heavy them? Heavy images? Content such as fonts, JS and other things not locally served? It could be a few things AS WELL as the speed of the carrier :o)
— Warren Laine-Naida (@WarrenLNaida) February 9, 2022
That makes sense. Using @elemntor can be the issue? #ChampsTalk
— Syed Muneeb Ul Hasan (Let's meet at #WCUS) (@syed_muneebb) February 9, 2022
Oh don't gget me started about page builders! LOL. Ahem. Some fast websites use page builders, some slow ones do. It's all about how you use and build with them. Even a bicycle can faster than a car depending on who is driving ;o)
— Warren Laine-Naida (@WarrenLNaida) February 9, 2022
haha, great example 🔥😃
— Syed Muneeb Ul Hasan (Let's meet at #WCUS) (@syed_muneebb) February 9, 2022
UX matters for Core Web Vitals, right. What things we should consider in terms of UX for a better Core Web Vitals score?@SocialChampSays @WarrenLNaida #ChampsTalk
— Fahad Ahmed (@Fahad_Ahmed94) February 9, 2022
I think the same things we should consider without CWV. I think its about a website that loads quickly and gives us the solution to our problem. It's very much about context. The rules are different but the goal is the same.
— Warren Laine-Naida (@WarrenLNaida) February 9, 2022
Alrightee! Thanks got your point 😊
— Fahad Ahmed (@Fahad_Ahmed94) February 9, 2022
Totally agreed 👍
What if I want to go with any Page Builder then what would be your suggestion either go with Gutenberg or @elemntor ? #ChampsTalk
— Syed Muneeb Ul Hasan (Let's meet at #WCUS) (@syed_muneebb) February 9, 2022
Yeah my site is in @Beaverbuilder.#ChampsTalk

I am making so many websites just with the Gutenburg, together with maybe Neve as a theme. If pushed perhaps the Otter plugin for extra blocks. But mostly just vanilla Gutenburg :o)
