Discovering Marketing Strategies with Andrea Bosoni, Founder of Zero to Marketing

We recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Andrea Bosoni, a renowned marketer and the founder of Zero to Marketing. Andrea has over a decade of experience in marketing and has become a prominent figure in the industry.

In our conversation, we discussed Andrea’s journey to becoming a Marketer and the challenges he has faced along the way. Here’s what he had to say.

Kulsoom: Hi Andrea, thanks for being a part of our #ChampsLifeSeries. To start off, please introduce yourself.

Andrea: Hey, thanks for having me! I’m Andrea, and I’m a marketer from Italy. I’ve been working in this industry for over 10 years now, and I still enjoy it as much as the first day. I’m a curious person, and I love reverse engineering what works so I can replicate it on my own projects. I think that’s why I find marketing so fun.

Kulsoom: How did you start your professional journey as a marketer? How’s your journey been so far?

Andrea: After graduating from college, I started working in finance, but I hated it. I’ve always loved the tech world, and I was experimenting on the side with small internet projects. My websites started to consistently rank on Google, and I realized there were companies willing to pay money for that. Eventually, I took a leap of faith to quit my corporate job to work full-time on my own thing. Then Facebook and Instagram came along, and I started learning all about running paid ads. Over time I learned other skills like conversion rate optimization, became a generalist, and started focusing more on the strategy part.

Kulsoom:  You founded Zero to Marketing company; Can you tell us a bit about that.

Andrea: Zero to Marketing is a newsletter. I pick new websites and write how I’d create a simple marketing strategy to grow them. The project started by accident one day when I tweeted about the idea. People loved it, so I started writing case studies, and it now has more than 10k subscribers. But the newsletter has been only the first step. My vision is to turn Zero to Marketing into a website with content, guides, and resources for people who want to get better at marketing.

Kulsoom: What were the struggles you faced at the start of your journey, and how did you overcome them?

Andrea: When I was just starting out, I had a lot of doubts. Quitting a corporate job to follow your passion isn’t easy at all. You keep asking yourself if you’re making the right choice. But deep down, I knew that was what I really wanted, so I kept going. Another thing that wasn’t easy was the fact that I’m not a native English speaker. Building an online business is already hard, but doing it in another language really raises the bar.

Kulsoom: As an expert in marketing, what advice would you give to new businesses that are just starting?

Andrea: Spend a lot of time talking to your target audience. This will help you get insights on how to position your product or service. In particular, you need to find an effective way to differentiate your offer from other popular brands. When someone visits your website, they should be able to immediately understand why they should choose you over the market leader.

Kulsoom: Who is your inspiration, both personally and professionally?

Andrea: Personally, I’d probably say my parents. They’ve been together for a lot of years and did a lot of sacrifices to raise me in the best way possible.

Professionally I have a lot of admiration for Rand Fishkin. I started learning marketing by watching his videos many years ago, and after reading his book “Lost and Founder,” I respect him even more.

Kulsoom: Stepping aside from work, how do you spend your free time? Anything in particular that helps you recalibrate and break the monotony?

Andrea: I love hiking in nature on weekends because it helps me clear my mind and recharge my batteries. I also play tennis during the week, which is great to disconnect since, for an hour, you’re forced to be completely concentrated on the game. I think it’s especially important for people who spend a lot of time online to exercise and reconnect with the physical world.

Kulsoom: Now it’s time for our rapid-fire round:
