Experts’ Advice to Strengthen Your Social Media Profile
Shay Berman

There is enough space for everyone on social media! Once you’ve identified what sets you apart from others in your space, lean into that. Authenticity is key, and while it’s not always easy, getting in front of the camera to film videos is non-negotiable nowadays.
If you’re in a professional position, angle yourself as an expert by answering industry-related FAQs and providing solutions to common pain points. Looking to be an influencer?
Don’t shy away from sharing personal experiences. A simple, vertical video – think TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and all forms of stories – is the best way to put yourself out there and start gaining traction!

Make a plan for social media. You should make sure that each social media network you use has a purpose. Starting a marketing calendar will help you do this. Make a calendar for all of your forthcoming events, blog entries, and whatever else you decide to do with your business. It will help you keep organized and understand how each of your social media accounts may assist your business reach new markets.

Your audience will appreciate it if you provide them with a benefit. Visitors to your social media profile or website should be given something. Show them who you are by providing them something for free, anything that will entice them to join your firm by establishing a trust or piquing their interest.
Consider giving them a free trial, a free book, a discount voucher, or simply a like back on their page. It will help you gain quality followers who will stay connected with your account and help you develop it.

Engagement is crucial
Because it allows you to establish and maintain a relationship with your audience. As you turn acquaintances into followers, followers into buyers, and buyers into devoted regular customers, building connections takes time and continuous involvement. You can, for example, ask questions and receive updates on stories.

Entertaining content is frequently amusing and easily shared. It can instantly transform a business into a community. Instagram also promotes reels strongly. You could, for example, post fun facts stories or go live and hold informational contests.

This advice will sound trite, but if you are a professional building your social media presence, the best thing you can do is be yourself. Early in the development of social media, there were a lot of experts saying we should keep our business material on LinkedIn and our personal material on Facebook and then decide if we want to be business or personal on Twitter.
I’m so glad that advice has been thrown out the window! Being yourself on social – sharing your wins (work and personal), your mistakes (and how you dealt with them), the development of your projects & programs in real-time, and sharing your outside work interests – creates a much stronger voice than just keeping content to work or your business. Always be closing is terrible advice in the social world because no one wants to interact with someone who sells constantly.
The flip side of being yourself is that you have to take the time to engage with others! Putting your work into the world will do nothing if you don’t take some time to engage with others each day.
That means commenting on posts, sharing information you find helpful, opening up your DMs, and connecting with others. Volunteer to advise new people in your space or take up offers to learn from those who have been around longer than you. These two things – authenticity and engagement – are the key to building a personal voice on social.

The best ways/strategies for growing your personal profile on social media can vary by channel, but here are three ideas that work for all channels:
#1 – Respond to comments on your posts and ask follow-up questions (when appropriate) to keep people interacting on your page. It
indicates that your post is interesting and engaging to the social media platform. Therefore, it will be shown to more people, and your reach and following will grow.
#2 – Engage with other accounts. If you want your profile to grow, then following other accounts that interest you and commenting on posts are essential. At a very basic level, people need to know that your account exists. By commenting on other posts, you are spreading awareness and encouraging others to check out your profile.
#3 – Post consistently. Often, people will binge-watch content on your personal profile before they decide to follow you. The more content you have on your channel, the more opportunity you provide to build a relationship with them so that they want to click that follow button. This is important if you genuinely want to grow your personal profile.

Be a social butterfly.
What do I mean by that?
Don’t just post things on your social channels and expect people to find you. Unless you have a unique selling point, the chance of people finding and following you is akin to a needle in a haystack.
Sitting back and admiring your posts will be like looking in the mirror. The only person who sees it is you.
To grow your personal brand, go looking for social media content that interests you and is relevant to your brand. Comment (genuinely) on other people’s posts multiple times in a day and engage in conversation with them. If it’s natural, they will take an interest in you – as may others reading the interaction – then go and take a look at your profile.
That is stage 1 done. Now your content, image, and musings should be interesting enough to encourage them to click on the subscribe/like/follow button.
And Voila your brand is starting to grow.

Instead of seeking complex ways to promote, opt for the basic yet effective methods. Posting regularly, targeting the right audience, and engaging may sound simple but need dedication. And include relevant tags to bring your posts in the interest of social media influencers of your niche.
Always work to enhance your content. The process may be slow, but it will help build your platforms.

Make your profile (SEO)-friendly.
It’s important to know what keywords other social media users might enter into the social media search bars. One of the ways is to add keyword phrases in your headline. Another unique way to make your profile SEO-friendly is to target an audience who are either current or potential followers using social media to find accounts like yours.
Imagine your social media account as a dating platform where you’ll want to attract more but genuine interest instantly! Optimize as much as you would with an online dating account but only more professional.

People won’t follow you unless you give a solid reason to them to do so. The netizens are constantly bombarded with a copious amount of content by social media, and you need to cut through the noisy environment to connect with them.
A great way to establish a social media presence and build your follower base is first to identify the target audience and curate content that is relevant and useful to them. The success factor lies in creating content that people love and is sharable. The step is to retain your audience and engage them with your profile — replying to their messages and comments, mentioning them, and organizing quizzes & polls are some of the best ways to do that.
One thing to remember is that growing your personal social media profile is not an overnight process. It takes time, a lot of time & effort to successfully grow your loyal follower base on social media, where consistency plays a vital role.

You may create an online persona representing your personal beliefs and professional talents by sharing stuff online. Firstly, completely update your social media profiles. Choose which social media account(s) to focus on and remove any old ones you no longer utilize.
Ensure all of your information is correct and accurate for the networks you will be using. This will assist you in directing and growing traffic to the networks where you may display yourself and your work. Then, determine your area of expertise.
The more original and entertaining material you publish on your chosen subject of knowledge, the more your followers will see you as a leader. Social media apps make posting simple. They connect to your social media networks and allow you to cross-post and plan content across several platforms.

1. Define the scope of your work and expertise. Make sure you are reaching your Ideal Audience, not everyone else.
2. Engage with others’ content genuinely.
3. Let your content do the rest of the talking! Content is always the king, so try to post relevant stuff so that when someone checks out your profile it would make sense and connection!

Differentiation, personality, value, and free stuff!
Firstly differentiation, this is obvious but often not adhered to. Brands always try to emulate larger accounts, but the reason the large account got their following is because they were different. I believe you can copy a lot of what the large account does, but you still must have your own unique perspective.
This also goes towards personality. Personality is a must in the social media game. Personality must be consistent and easily liked. The best example of this is probably Oreo, they are always finding ways to make humor out of world events and use their social platforms to express this.
Value, if your brand is serviced-based, you should basically give everything away for free. Every single post should have an enormous amount of value for NOTHING.
To quote Gary Vaynerchuk “Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook”. Each post should be free value (Jab). Then when you have sucked the customers in, you can ask for a sale. Do not take the sale to ask; just because you provided value, it doesn’t mean your customer has to buy from you.
Well, the last point is obvious, giveaways and free stuff will always attract followers and engagement!

If I could give you one piece of golden advice, it would: start with creating a strategy.
You can build your personal brand in many ways and use multiple platforms to do it (websites, blogs, radio, podcasts, social media, etc.). So, it’s easy to get lost quickly if you don’t have a plan.
Creating a special document that contains at least the following will help you to specify what and where you should maintain your activity:
– Self-analysis – what are your strengths and weaknesses, what can you do, what you need to work on, and what to be careful about.
– Goals – what do you want to achieve, in what time, and how will it be measured?
– Audience – who do you want to reach and where to find them.
– Tone of voice – how you want to be perceived, how you will speak with your audience.
How do you share your knowledge, experience, and thoughts? You can do it in many ways, e.g. :
– writing about and sharing your knowledge,
– talking publicly,
– showing up at conferences,
-building your network.
Always choose what makes you happy, what you feel good at. Don’t force
yourself, for example, to speak in public if you don’t feel it (especially at the beginning).
No matter where you start, though, these days, it’s clear that you must take one thing under consideration: people will thoroughly dissect your online activity. Especially your social media profiles. You may be surprised just how precise and picky they can be with their scrutiny before they do any business with you.

First, remember you have a personal brand regardless of what you put out on social media. Your brand is built by the experiences that people have with you on and offline.
Now, you can influence or strengthen your brand when you are intentional about:
– What are your goals?
– What do you want others to know about you?
– How can you best share that information?
From this, you can choose the platforms that make the most sense for you and who you are trying to reach.
Consistency is key! For example, if you start a blog to build thought leadership…don’t just post once every 6 months. *Set a schedule and stick to it.
For an in-person example, think about the person who has an extremely professional and academic-looking LinkedIn profile, but shows up to a networking event late is poorly dressed, and speaks in a very broken or unpolished manner. These two images are inconsistent, and people will not buy into the “polished” brand they see online, but instead, the experience they have with you in person.
Get active! Many people believe if they create a stellar profile on social media that, people will flock to them. This is not correct. People are looking for authentic and real conversation, engagement, insight, thought leadership, etc.
So post valuable content, respond to others, ask questions, and build your brand.

With so much competition around, showcasing yourself as a brand on social media platforms requires consistent time and energy input for greater returns.
Start from Changing inspirational to relatable – The pendulum is swinging away from the perfectly polished image and inspirational content toward solving problems in real life. So ask the questions, share a problem or open up about your challenges – just make sure the audience relates to it.
This way, the audience will automatically engage with your personal profile without you putting in the extra effort.

There are a lot of different ways to grow your personal profile on social media. Here are some of the best possible ways and strategies to get the most out of your social media presence:
1. Use high-quality photos. Make sure that all of your profile photos and other images are high quality and professional-looking. This will help to make a good impression on potential followers.
2. Be active and engage with others. Social media is all about interacting with other people. Be active and engage with others by commenting on their posts, liking them, and sharing them with your own followers.
3. Post interesting content. Make sure to post interesting content that people will want to read and share. This could be anything from blog posts, news articles, funny memes, or interesting images.
4. Use hashtags liberally. By using hashtags, you can help people find your content. People are more likely to share your posts if they include a hashtag at the end of it.
5. Be consistent. Consistency is key with social media.

The best possible way to grow your personal profile or your brand on social media is by uploading content that your followers are looking forward to. Make sure your content is relevant to your expertise and that your followers also want more information related to your expertise.
Check your posts that are viewed most by your followers and create content accordingly. This will help your profile on social media grow, and your followers will also start to see you as their leader.

Turn your profile into an asset.
Though it may come as a surprise, there is a formula for building a strong personal presence and growing a massive following online. It might look like people are just getting lucky, but most of them are following an identical, tried-and-tested process. If you follow it too, you’re likely to see the exact same results. Here’s what you need to do. First of all, pick a topic that you’re passionate about.
This is something that you want to be known for; you could talk about it all day, and you know it better than almost anyone else. From that point, start posting content at least once a day on that topic. Once you’ve got into a rhythm, start engaging with other large content creators by leaving comments under their posts. Doing this 5 times a day takes minimal effort, and puts your profile in front of a much wider audience.
After following these steps for a few months, ramp up your content production by posting 2-3 times a day. You can repurpose old content or use new, creative modes of communication like video or audio for more diverse accessibility options. Finally, once you’ve amassed a large enough following, the final step is to build out a newsletter.
This gives you an additional vehicle with which to provide value to your audience when you can encourage them to engage with your brand further and buy the products or services that you have to offer.
Plus, connecting with these individuals via email is far more personal, as it helps you avoid the distractions present on platforms like LinkedIn and Facebook. Follow this process for one year, and you’ll notice an incredible increase in traffic directed to your personal profile – guaranteed.

Just one thing, “show up often on your social accounts with value”.
What makes a personal profile great is how often you communicate with your audience and what value as an expert you bring to them. Think what kind of content your followers respond to the most?
Can you repurpose the same kind of content to re-engage them? Although our attention spans are getting shorter, we still look for the value as content consumers. So to grow your personal profile, you must stand out as a thought leader in your chosen field.

Here are some effective ways to grow your personal profile on social media:
Define what is your niche and what is your angle in that niche – figure out what is unique about you and what you can offer that other people in your niche cannot.
Join as many groups, forums, and hashtags in your niche so you understand what community already exists – get involved in the conversations that are happening and offer your insights.
Be consistent with your content – if you want to grow your personal brand, you need to be posting quality content on a regular basis (at least once a day).
Gather a list of small influencers in your niche and send them DMs to collaborate with you – by working with other influencers, you can reach a larger audience and grow your personal brand.
We’ve actually written a full guide about it.

With its enormous potential, social media surpasses the highest marks of outreach. To grow on social media, it is essential to create and sustain personal profiles besides professional ones but with a clear separation between these two types of profiles. Maintaining a personal profile will add to credibility and personalization, which are the best outcomes of this activity.
Stay Relevant
Social media has already diversified content and to stay prominent it is imperative to create such content that delivers value and relates to the audience knowing their pain points. For example, a page from the laundry industry should share tips on clothing, cleaning, and related materials to attract the audience. And if, on the contrary, the laundry page shares information about herbs and food, it will lose its credibility and the audience will not share or like it thus pushing it down to the popularity bars.
Frequent Posting
To grow your personal profile on social media, mind the frequency with which you post on social media. A regular interval in the posts is always better than ad hoc posting. For example, if I post four times a day on social media, chances are great that I will get more audience since it will contribute to attracting even more followers.

Social media is something that is helping you to stay connected and interact with people all over the world. Also, everything is evolving in a digital manner so this is the high time to manage and grow your social media accounts for better opportunities. Brands always hustle tirelessly to boost their visibility and increase their social media accounts:
1. Sync your contacts
2. Maintain a unique and consistent brand image to increase the engagement and number of likes, shares, and comments on your posts.
3. Study influencers and take their lead in your area of expertise.
4. Don’t post inappropriate or controversial content on any social media platforms.
5. Don’t just brag for followers but also understand the relationships
Above mentioned points will definitely help you to grow your social media accounts.

One of the best ways to grow your personal profile on social media is to become a subject matter expert (SME). An SME is someone well-known in their field for the experience they have and the knowledge they share. To become better known for the knowledge one share, it’s helpful to participate in and create content around engaging conversations on social media.
Responding to comments on your topic-specific posts as often as possible helps too. Engaging with your audience in a friendly/welcoming conversation creates an interesting thread to be read by others. This can be used as an effective strategy to gain followers and grow your social presence.
My recommendation is to find a topic you enjoy going deep on, sharing posts, and responding to comments about that topic in a way that others routinely see! Before you know it, you’ll become their go-to for that area of insight.

I started a global branding and digital marketing firm 20 years ago. Social media and technology are 24/7 so it is easy to get sucked into it but don’t let them drive you crazy, you do not need to be everywhere, it does not matter which platform you choose just pick one or 2 that are authentic to you. In my experience, influencers and key people need to be on LinkedIn so that they can be found.
It adds credibility and transparency when you know the people you are meeting or working with know people in common. LinkedIn has become more than an online resume or rolodex, it is the foundation for building trusted relationships in the digital economy. If your customers do not use Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram to find you then you do not need to make them a priority. For many professional service businesses like mine, LinkedIn matters the most.
With LinkedIn, you don’t have to wait for a networking event to make meaningful business connections. You get one chance to make a great first impression so make sure every section of your LinkedIn profile is complete, with no blank spaces or gaps. Include a professional headshot and powerful headline followed by a summary with highlights of your personal brand, what you do well, and how you can benefit potential clients or employers.
Keep this section brief and easy to skim for the best results. Keywords are a great way to help professionals and recruiters in your industry find your profile and strategic keywords in your profile give you an advantage in networking too.
To present yourself as an expert in your industry post interesting and educational content by sharing a great article you’ve read recently or if you truly want to make valuable connections and represent yourself as a talented thought leader in your industry, you should be crafting your own articles on LinkedIn too.
This does not require big budgets but it does take time. It is a smart investment to get this right. Authenticity is the key, it has to be and feel real for it to work I think. This has helped me grow my business.

Live videos are a great way to grow your personal profile on social media. Do it in collaboration with other brands and people in an effort to reach more people.
In these live videos, you can provide expert insight for others, teach them something, and provide value consistently in these sessions, so that your profile will become known as a high-quality one to others.
If you can keep people coming back for these live sessions full of insight, you’ll begin to see consistent growth in your personal profile on social media. It’s a great way to flex your muscles as an expert in your space and even become a ‘thought leader’.
Live videos provide an extra element of excitement for your channel and can drive new visitors to your channel, which is obviously very important.

When we look at famous social media personalities, we are often surprised by how easily this person is speaking his mind and then earning organic engagements. But this is a myth that needs to be broken.
Behind a 60-second reel or a 160-character tweet lies hours of research, content curation, editing, and publishing. Hence growing a personal brand on social media is very tricky unless you incorporate the following strategies in your plan-
Pick a Niche- What do you specialize in? What can you speak about confidently and without any doubts? Pick a niche for yourself. For example, if you are a marketer, you can talk about marketing jargon, case studies, your marketing career, marketing courses, etc.
Research- If you spend 3 hours on content curation, spend at least 4 hours on research. The research will help you bring out unique content and also be a point of reference in case someone asks for evidence.
Storytelling- People connect and engage more with honest and natural content instead of scripted. To ensure that such emotions are present in your content, make at least 2-3 drafts of your content, read it aloud and gauge which one sounds better.
Reengage- Do not ignore the comments or the reshares. Appreciate your audience’s love, however little it is. This makes the audience think of you as humble and attentive.
Collaborate- Healthy communication amongst co-creators and further collaborations help you gain fresh organic traffic.
Growing your personal profile on social media is easy if you keep the above checklist in mind and repeatedly churn out consistent and quality content.

Don’t try to be everything to everyone when growing your profile on social media. Figure out who your ideal audience is, and target that person. It’s also essential that you be consistent in your voice and tone of voice across all platforms, so people know what to expect from you when they come across any of your content.
Lastly, make sure that every post is useful to your audience—no one wants to read something they can’t apply to their life right away!

Always try to post in real-time when possible, so that followers can interact with each other around the content being posted. It’s also important to make sure that people feel welcome when they come into contact with your profile for the first time—that means no aggressive marketing tactics or self-promotion without context (unless someone specifically asks).

Be consistent. Post at least once a day, if not more. People like seeing regular updates from you, so they can get to know the real you, and they’ll come back to your page often if they know there will be something new there every day.
Secondly, be authentic. Don’t try too hard to come off as someone else—just be yourself! Your followers will appreciate that authenticity, and it will make them feel like they’re getting a better idea of who you are as a person and what interests you personally (not just professionally).
Lastly, be upfront about issues you’re facing while staying positive! Even if you’re having a bad day or week, demonstrate to your audience how you are dealing with it in a positive way so that they can emulate you when they are facing similar issues.

As of 2020, over 3.6 billion people were using social media worldwide. By 2025, this figure is expected to reach almost 4.41 billion. Social media can serve as a great medium to boost your personal profile and increase your followers manifold.
That said, with a plethora of social media users, it can be tricky to make your personal profile stand out from the crowd. The good news is that there are some tried-and-tested ways and strategies that can help you develop trust and authority with your target audience.
Choose the right social media channel. You cannot be everywhere all the time. To connect with your target audience, you have to be on the channel they are on.
Make your social media profile visually appealing. Upload a professional photo, of the correct size (according to the platform), and use the same image across all your profiles. Fill out all areas of your profile completely and include links to your website, other social media profiles, and landing page.
Regular engagement is necessary with your audience on social media channels. Share content regularly; it can be daily, twice a day, or once a week, depending on the audience presence and types of content.
Join the right groups that are linked to your industry niche or specific area of expertise. Industry groups are good, but they might be overstuffed with competitors. Rather, smaller topic-based groups may prove more useful in reaching your target audience.
Closely analyze your competitors’ engagement on social media platforms.
Check what type of content draws the maximum number of engagement from users.

Building up your online presence usually comes down to your ability to define your audience and have a compelling enough message that drives discussions and creates conversations that encourage others to get involved. And you can do this by first understanding your value proposition and then following up with clear messages that show what it is exactly you have to offer.
This means utilizing white papers, blog posts, tweets, and other text-based content channels of distribution to establish yourself as a thought leader within your industry. You can also make an effort to participate in online group and community discussions around your chosen area of expertise through platforms like LinkedIn.
This in turn enables you to steadily build a reputable brand that connects you with other people that are invested in what you have to say, which is what will ultimately start to drive up your audience numbers.

Like “real life” the best way to grow your social media following is to work hard. Those with large followings work at it every day. That being said, mindful growth is important as well. Here are key tips:
-Sharing is caring. Engage with others and share their posts as well
-Tag a friend. Don’t tag total strangers or 100 people in one post – but if someone is relevant to the content or you’re showcasing something they did, tag them. This is a good way to get them to also share your content on their feed and in front of their followers. Think of it as digital networking
– Ask questions. People engage more when they get to give their opinion 😉
– Be consistent. In both “brand” and posting frequency so people know what to expect
– Use video and photos. Get creative with the myriad of tools available.
– Use key hashtags – whether a simple evergreen tag like “#dogs” or more topical or date-driven, hashtags help more people see your post. Think about what people will be searching for on specific days or topics tied to your content, such as #beachday.
– Showcase your knowledge. On channels such as Twitter and LinkedIn, sharing interesting articles with your takeaways can be fruitful. It both provides an interesting or helpful FYI to your audience and also showcases your knowledge on the subject.

“With more than 4.65 billion active users on social media, it’s getting harder and harder for creators to stand out from the crowd and make themselves known.
There is one tactic that is still underrated but can be effective in a short time. It’s the constant engagement with other accounts.
Whether building relationships through one-to-one messaging or posting comments and replies on other people’s posts, it’s crucial to spend time engaging with others online. This helps get your name out there and shows other users that you are interested in what they have to say.
You can also try following other businesses and influencers in your industry and see if they follow back (though don’t expect everyone to). This will allow them to see what you’re up to and potentially follow back!
Extra tip: Be active in groups related to your interests and your account’s niche! In 2021, there were over 10 million Facebook groups, so you should join all relevant groups and start sharing your tips and expertise with the communities.”

When coaching our talent, we guide them on how to use multiple streaming apps to reach a broader audience and do the same with social media. Different people use different platforms, and if you post on multiple platforms, you can reach more people that will find you on the others.
Learning how to take great photos, and how to create engaging content is half of the battle for growing an audience. The other half is taking the time to engage with your audience in the comments. People aren’t spending their time on an app, they’re spending their time engaging with other people through the app. Always keep this in mind.
